EmilysBreakfast Furniture–you’ll never misread our commitment to offering great furniture at fabulous prices, all served up with a smile!

Twice this week I’ve seen signs that I read differently than what they actually said.  One was a street in Bloomingdale that I read as “Donutman”  - and I thought it would be way cool to live on Donutman drive – when the sign actually read “Dunteman.”  A second sign I misread was an election sign that was still by the side of the road and I thought it said “Someone’s name for GOD” – which made me totally smile – since who won’t like to be God for a while (though it didn’t work out so well for Jim Carrey in the movie Bruce Almighty – did it) when it actually was “Someone’s name for COD” (College of DuPage).

Before you get concerned that I’m driving around half blind and/or can’t read – I just had my eyes checked and though I need glasses – with them I can see just fine.  And I can read.  Instead, my theory is we have so much information coming our way – almost all the time – that our brains start taking something in and immediately begin to fill in the rest of whatever we’re reading (like what Google does when you start typing in whatever you’re searching for – it fills in the rest of the word with lots of different options before you’ve finished) – and sometimes we’re wrong.  I find it’s when I misread something that I often chuckle – and who doesn’t need a laugh every now and then?!

Though there’s nothing laughable about our current inventory at EmilysBreakfast Furniture.  Awe inspiring – would be appropriate words.  Amazing too.  Unbelievable, even?  Seriously, I have some of the nicest donations we’ve ever received to show you this week.  Warning – tons of gushy adjectives (I’ll apologize now – sorry).

there’s a super sweet story behind these photos which I’d love to share – Shea is nine years old and the daughter of Tara – a wonderful, regular EmilysBreakfast Furniture customer –who has inherited her mother’s creative talent.  Tara found a great website with directions on how to DIY dessert plates, and that’s all it took for her and Shea to buy a bunch of miscellaneous glassware/plates from EmilysBreakfast (and maybe other resale stores too?) and last weekend (when it was sunny and warm and glorious) they were on their deck merrily working away with the thought that they’d donate the finished pieces BACK to EmilysBreakfast!  Shea’s sign reads: (at the top which you can’t see it says This is Shea) She is nine years old.  She made all of this.  First she bought unmatched china and spray painted on Frosted Glass and then spray painted on a color.  After that dried she put on Household Adhesive sealant glue and let it dry.  and that’s how she made them.  I honestly don’t know how to price something as special as these lovely dessert plates (oh, and incidentally they can be hand-washed and it’s recommended that you NOT serve food directly on the painted surface – but to use a doily) – but I’m going to go with $10 for the smaller pieces and $15 for the large ones.  SHEA – thank you so much!

And that, dear reader, caps this week’s installment of “What’s new?” at EmilysBreakfast Furniture!  I hope to see many of you today (Friday) from 1 to 8 or tomorrow (Saturday) from 9 to 4!  And for the record - EmilysBreakfast Furniture WILL be OPEN next Friday and Saturday (Good Friday and the Saturday before Easter) our regular hours!

Have any of your own misreads which made you laugh?  I’d love to hear ‘em!

God’s blessings, peace and grace to you!
